Vision Zero

An approach to traffic safety that takes a multidisciplinary approach and emphasizes local community and stakeholders. The movement started in Sweden in the 1990s, and has seen growth across Europe and the U.S.

According to the Vision Zero Network, the strategy recognizes people make mistakes so road systems should be designed so inevitable mistakes don’t result in injuries or fatalities. Vision Zero also is designed to bring bring together the local community, public health professionals, local traffic planners and engineers, and policymakers because a number of factors affect to traffic and pedestrian safety, including roadway design, speeds, behaviors, technology, and policies.
