ethnicity
A sociological grouping based on shared cultural (sometimes religious), social, historical, and ancestral geographic background. Ethnic groups tend to have distinctive beliefs or culture. People may find pride or comfort in their ethnic identity because of shared values, religion, language, food, and historical context. However, it is important to note that ethnicity is neither genetic nor biological.
Do not confuse ethnicity with race. Also see ethnic cleansing.
